OJS Densiflex 6100 Solid Polyurethane (SPU)
(Wet thermal insulation on pipelines)
Solid polyurethane (SPU) is used to coat field joints on pipelines, risers, spools where wet thermal insulation is required. This SPU needs to be applied with an anti-corrosion coating.
WHY USE DENSIFLEX 6100?
The benefits these product provide for our Clients are;
The material properties are the best available for SPU wet insulation (see below)
Densiflex 6100 is mercury free avoiding pollution issues with offshore facilities
Fast curing and application cycle times.
SPU MATERIAL PROPERTY TESTING
COMPARISON OF OJS DENSIFLEX 6100 and HYPERLAST 439
OJS is pleased to present the results of intensive laboratory material property testing of our new Solid Polyurethane (SPU) material Densiflex 6100. The test protocol was established by Heerema/PTL in agreement with Marathon Oil. They were performed by an independent laboratory under simulated field applications and replicated using Hyperlast 439 material to provide a comparison for pipeline field joint applications.
OJS performed the material testing in February 2009 to establish suitability for pipeline field joint coating on the Marathon Droshky project in Gulf of Mexico Block GC 65. The flowline will be assembled at the new Subsea 7 spoolbase in Port Isabel on the Gulf of Mexico coastline, Texas, USA during Q3 2009.
In order to confirm suitability of Densiflex 6100, OJS applied three field joints onto a section of 8" dia pipe with GSPU parent coating. The pipe was placed through 3 cycles of bending and straightening and then held in the bent position for a further 24 hours. After the bend test, samples of the pipe/Densiflex and PP parent coating were taken from the field joints and sent to a different laboratory for further testing. The identical procedure was undertaken with a second pipe section, on this occasion with Hyperlast 439 applied to the three field joints. The results presented in the table below were reported by the independent testing laboratory and witnessed by OJS Installation Contractor Client.

The Droshky pipeline will be 60 Km in length, 8.625" dia x 0.832" W.T API 5L X-70 steel with Polypropylene coating and installed in water depths up to 900 metres using a reeling vessel at the end of 2009.
The above tests were designed to closely simulate the installation conditions, (bending on the reel) and in service conditions. Product data sheets are based upon laboratory samples being tested after casting without bonding or bending stress/strains imposed.
